Refereeing

Each team is encouraged to have at least two referees with basic district level (Rules of the Game) qualifications , as they have to do referee duty as part of their competition timetable.

Every season of competition, a "Rules of the Game" course is conducted to allow players to attain the qualification needed to do proper refereeing duty. This includes all aspects of officiating a volleyball game, from first and second referee to line judging and correct score sheet completion.

The numerous players that have attended previous courses have ensured that the quality of the competition is at a professional level throughout all grades. This has also markedly improved the players' knowledge of the game.

The course is held on a given Saturday and costs $20 (Free for juniors), it includes a fully bound FIVB rule book with case studies and refereeing guidelines, a whistle, and laminated red and yellow sanction cards. On successful completion of an open book exam, a Rules of the Game certificate is awarded.
